This picture is of my version of Amphitrite, the mythical Greek goddess-queen of the sea. She was the wife of Poseidon, the eldest of the fifty Nereides, and later on the mother of Triton, among others. She was said to be the personification of the sea - salty, moaning, and the mother of all fish, lobsters, shellfish and seals.

Obviously I've taken a few liberties with this depiction, and given it a slightly Asian flair by using the wind bars and clouds as they appear in traditional Japanese tattoos (called irezumi) for her hair. I was also hoping to capture a slightly 'Art Nouveau' feel in this picture, although it's debatable as to whether or not that was successful.

This picture was drawn and colored in the Procreate app on an iPad. As the original is a digital file, it is only available for purchase as a print.
